Fire Risk Assessment

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order came into effect in October 2006 and affects all non-domestic properties in England and Wales.

The Fire Safety Order means that a fire risk assessment must be carried out on your premises by a competent person to ensure that suitable fire precautions, maintenance and management measures are in place to ensure the safety of anyone who uses your premises. Premises may be subject to inspection from the Fire and Rescue Service who may prosecute in cases of non-compliance.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order :

Place emphasis on preventing fires and reducing risk including

conducting fire risk assessments and providing relevant training.

Eliminate the need for fire certificates.

Make it your responsibility to ensure the safety of everyone who uses your premises.

Persons and premises affected by the Regulatory (Fire Safety) Order include:

Persons responsible for business premises

Employers

Self-employed persons with business premises

Charities and voluntary organisations.
